Three Artists from Sierra Leone have been nominated for International music Awards to take place later this year.
Benjamin Menelik George, aka Drizilik was nominated in the category of Listeners’ Choice in the Music Television (MTV) Base Awards 2021, alongside Tiwa Savage of Nigeria, Khaligraph Jones of Kenya etc. This Award ceremony will be hosted by the American Iconic and legendary Music Producer, DJ Khalid, on February 20 in Kampala, Uganda.
Star ZEE, has also been nominated in three categories in the Global Music Awards: Global Hi-hop song of the year, Global Reggae/Dancehall song of the year, Global Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the year.
She has been nominated alongside Nigeria’s Afro-Fusion artist Burna Boy, and Ghana’s Dancehall legendary Act Shatta Wale etc.
A third Sierra Leonean Hip-hop artist based in Australia, Terror D, has also been nominated in four categories of the Global Music Awards. He is nominated in the following categories: Global Afrobeat Song of the Year, Global Afrobeat Artist of the year, Global Record of the Year, and Global Wrapper of the year.
Over the years, Sierra Leonean Musicians have been anticipating recognition in international awards. They have been working hard in the entertainment industry; releasing Albums, Extended Plays (EPs) Long Plays (LPs) and Singles and also collaborating with international acts in order to showcase their talents in the global entertainment scene. Sierra Leoneans took to social media, boasting that their musicians whom have been nominated for international awards, including those who has recently been recognized across Africa and beyond for their music crafts, such as Kao Denero, who has also been involved in Hip hop “Beef” and its controversies recently , have reached a significant milestones. They further contend that Sierra Leone indeed has talents and that are able to take the country’s entertainment craft to the big stage.
The MTV Africa Music Awards was established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.
