Sierra Leonean releases music single in Brazil

Amadu Sankoh, commonly known as A Sank, a Sierra Leonean musician living in São Paulo, Brazil, has on Wednesday June 10, 2020 released a hit single titled in portuguese: “Te Amo,” which translates in English “I Love You,” featuring Jânio Vilar, a Brazilian producer & musician and Joseph Healing, a Sierra Leonean singer based in the U.S.

A Sank developed passion for music when he was attending the Christ the King College, Bo City, southern Sierra Leone. He became more passionate about music when he gained an admission at Njala University to pursue B.Sc. in Business Information Technology.

“I have been in the music industry for about 15 years now, but it was not consecutive because I was pursuing my education. So, I did not have much time to focus on my music career until in 2019 when I decided to take my music career to another level and till date I have been working really hard,” he told Premier News. He said that he has not released any Album yet, but have six official singles.

He disclosed that in December 2019, he won an award for heroism from “Mercy Me Global Foundation,” an American based organization that promotes Entertainment Globally.

He said that he recorded his first single titled “One and only” in 2006 in Bo city, and also took part in many musical activities in Bo. He added that he was not sure of pursuing music as a career because his Dad wanted him to prioritize formal education more than a career in music. So, in order to satisfy my Dad, I first pursued my education and then later focused on my musical career thereafter.”

He disclosed that, to increase his visibility in the music industry, he has created Audio-mark and YouTube accounts, where his fans and the world as a whole could access his songs.

He explained that his compositions were purely based on inspirations he got naturally, adding that anytime a tune suddenly drops in his mind he immediately records it so that he would not lose it in case he forgets.

“Sometimes, I used to be in gatherings or with friends when I get the inspiration, but I will immediately leave and go to a corner and take my phone to sing the inspirational tune, and when I get home at my leisure time, I try to develop the song. Later I go to the studio and do the rest,” he said. He admitted that in Brazil it is very challenging pursuing a career in music, “but I am using my challenges as my motivation to work harder and breakthrough in the international community.”

He added that he used to live in Rio de Janeiro for three years, but it was difficult for him to pursue his career as a musician there because he did not have the platform so he finally moved to São Paulo which is the biggest and richest state in Brazil and the entire South America.
