Sierra Leone’s Housing Law is old – Land Minister Says

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning (MLHCP), Dr. Turad Senesie, has said that Sierra Leone has old housing laws which need to be reviewed for it to be suitablewith the current housing trends.

He made this statement when he was recently recounting the successes and challenges of the Ministry during.

He added that the current laws do not make much positive impact, and cabinet has given the Ministry its approval to review them.

He added that when he assumed office,the Ministry was over crowded with irregular or auxiliary staffs that were not supposed to be part of the work force of the Ministry, and added that with the help of the Public Service Commission, he had to ascertain legitimate staffin a bid to decongest the Ministry.

“As part of the decongestion process, I ordered the auxiliary staffs and volunteer at the Ministry to apply through the Public Service Commission whenever vacancies are available,” Dr. Turad said.

Turad cited that at some particular pointthe public lost confidence in the work of the Ministry, adding that the nature ministry’s mandate he had to restore public’s trust in it which hitherto his assumption of duty had been tattered.

“In order to regain confidence, I engaged the public by allowing staff to put forward its agenda to the publicbecause there was also a communication gap at the Ministry,” Dr. Turad said.

He also mentioned that it was common for more than three holders claiming ownership of the said parcel of land captured in the document.

“I have to permanently positioned those that were acting at various department in order to give them confidence and for them to be responsible for any undertaking at the ministry,” Dr. Turad said.
