Rokel Commercial Bank on Saturday, March 4, 2023, won the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) football tournament after defeating the Union Trust Bank at the Police field in Kingston.
Mohamed Kabba scored the opening goal for Rokel Commercial Bank in the 10 minutes of play in the first half.
Union Trust Bank fought back in the second half as they got the equaling goal in the second half.
The teams settled for penalties after the 90 minutes of play, and Rokel Commercial Bank won the shoot-out by 6 – 5.
Eco-Bank Sierra Leone humiliate Bank of Sierra Leone by 5-1 to win the third position.
The head coach of Eco-Bank, Mohamed Issa said as a team they are happy to get the win with such a huge goal margin in the competition.
Head Coach of Bank of Sierra Leone, Slyvianus Dopo registered his disappointment with the results. “We trained hard for the tournament but with such result I am not happy,” he said.
Speaking as organizer Mr. Osoku Johnson-Williams stated that this weekend Rokel Commercial Bank is going to play against Sierra Leone Commercial Bank in a celebration match.
He said that the competition is part of commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of SLCB.
He said next weekend, the football gala will reach its climax as the ‘Champions of Champions’ will play against Sierra Leone Commercial Bank.
He said that there will be other fun matches as the female wings will play a comic match with other combine teams, and the Management of Commercial Bank will play against Rokel Commercial Bank.
Johnson-William said that over the years the Bank has fostered a good relationship with other Banks, and that will continue.
He said that certificates will be given to all participating players and banks, adding that prizes will be given to best players, best goalkeeper, and highest goal scorer.
