Sports Minister Launches Community Projects in Bonthe District

On Friday, February 7, 2025, a significant milestone in community development was marked in Bonthe District, Sierra Leone, as the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James Teima, joined several key figures to officially launch various infrastructure projects in the region. The event took place in Tihun, Sogbini Chiefdom, and was attended by Director of Sports Haroun Mustapha Korgi, Madam Kenyah Balley from MOPED, Hon. Fatmata Bockarie, PC Lansana Bio, and Commissioner Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina from the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA).

Speaking at the ceremony, Madam Augusta James Teima emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Sierra Leone through tangible action. She proudly stated, “We are here today to launch significant projects for Tihun and Sogbini Chiefdoms. These initiatives come from our hearts.” She went on to acknowledge the government’s “tok and do” philosophy, referring to President Julius Maada Bio as an action-oriented leader determined to see the country develop.

Reflecting on past promises, the Minister reiterated the Ministry of Sports’ dedication to turning the region’s sporting facilities into state-of-the-art venues. She noted, “We came here last time and told the Paramount Chief and his people that we would like to develop this ground you are standing on. We are delivering on that promise.” The planned mini stadium for football and athletics, along with other improvements, is set to feature modern facilities, including the much-anticipated artificial turf.

Minister James Teima assured the community that construction would commence soon, with Chinese engineers scheduled to carry out another survey of the land. “We are working with him [President Bio] to make Sierra Leone a better place. Let me reiterate the Ministry of Sports’ commitment to make this mini stadium a reality,” she concluded, expressing gratitude to all those who helped make the launch possible.

The projects, which are expected to bring long-term benefits to the local community, stand as a testament to the government’s resolve to uplift Sierra Leone through infrastructural development and the empowerment of its people.
