Freetown, February 21, 2025 – The Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, will be representing Sierra Leone at the II International Sports Fair in Havana, Cuba, from February 23 to 27, 2025. This invitation was extended by the President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER) of Cuba, aiming to strengthen international cooperation and foster sports development.
The International Sports Fair in Havana is a significant event that gathers sports professionals, officials, and institutions from around the globe to discuss the future of sports and physical education. Minister James-Teima will engage in key discussions, explore collaboration opportunities, and highlight Sierra Leone’s commitment to advancing sports and physical education.
In addition to attending the fair, Minister James-Teima will sign a substantial agreement with INDER to promote and develop sports in Sierra Leone. This partnership is set to enhance the nation’s sports infrastructure, build capacity, and advance sports development at all levels.
Accompanying the Minister on this mission is the Senior Sports Development Officer from the Ministry of Sports, Momodu Alpha, who will ensure alignment with Sierra Leone’s national sports goals. The delegation departed Freetown on Friday, February 21, 2025, and will return on February 28, 2025.
Minister Augusta James-Teima expressed her enthusiasm about the trip, noting the potential for impactful partnerships that can shape the future of sports in Sierra Leone. “We are excited about the opportunity to learn from our Cuban counterparts, share our own experiences, and ultimately create a strong foundation for the development of sports in Sierra Leone. This collaboration is vital for the growth of our youth, athletes, and sports institutions,” she remarked.
