St. Patrick’s Lodge Donates Supplies to Support the Elderly

Grafton, Sierra Leone (March 15, 2025) – Continuing its tradition of community service, St. Patrick’s Lodge No. 9366, under the Grand Lodge of England, has once again extended its support to vulnerable communities. On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the lodge donated essential supplies to elderly residents of the King George VI Home in Grafton, reinforcing its commitment to uplifting society’s most vulnerable.

The donation included seven bags of rice, six gallons of groundnut oil, powdered soap, toilet rolls, and a cash contribution from a lodge member. These contributions aim to ease the daily struggles of the home’s residents, many of whom lack consistent support.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Worshipful Master Desmond George underscored the lodge’s core values of brotherly love, relief, and truth, emphasizing that charity is central to their mission. “Charity is not just an idea; it is a practice we must actively uphold. It is more blessed to give than to receive, and this principle drives our commitment to helping those in need,” George stated.

The St. Patrick’s Lodge’s annual visits to care homes have become a hallmark of its outreach efforts. This year’s donations also included cooking oil, onions, tomatoes, detergents, and other essentials, reflecting a deep dedication to alleviating hardships faced by elderly residents.

Desmond George encouraged others to follow suit, emphasizing the urgency of providing assistance. “The community needs our support. If our actions inspire others to join in, we can make a significant difference. Giving while we can is what truly matters,” he remarked. He revealed plans for another visit later this month, further expanding the lodge’s charitable efforts.

Ramatu Kanu, administrator of King George VI Home, expressed profound gratitude for the support. “We constantly struggle with limited resources, and contributions like this are a lifeline for us. Today, we have food supplies to sustain us, and it fills my heart with joy. I pray for continued blessings for St. Patrick’s Lodge,” she shared.

Among the recipients of this year’s donations was Abu Bakar Kamara, a disabled ex-combatant who reflected on the impact of the gesture. “For people like me, survival is a daily battle. Today, we have food, and it gives me immense happiness. May God bless them all,” Kamara expressed.

This heartfelt initiative highlights the importance of charity, not just in meeting material needs but in restoring dignity and hope to the elderly and marginalized. St. Patrick’s Lodge’s ongoing efforts demonstrate that even small acts of kindness can leave a profound and lasting impact, inspiring others to embrace philanthropy and strengthen the culture of compassion within the community.
