SWASAL Condemns Violence in Premier League

Freetown, 28 March, 2022-The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) is  concerned with the preponderance pace of rampant violence, clash, and hooliganism amongst  fans, officials, and security forces in the country’s biggest football league-The Sierra Leone Premier League.

SWASAL is shocked at the vicious incident that took place at the Bo Mini stadium in the Southern Region during the fixture between Bo Rangers and FC Kallon. Also, recent hooliganism left an FC Johansen fan wounded following their clash with Ports Authority Football Club.

Aside from these two incidents, there have been several other reported cases of violence between supporters of various clubs as well as exchanges by club officials.

SWASAL wants to remind all football-loving fans, club officials, and the football family that violence is unacceptable and intolerable.

“We want to use this opportunity to condemn the continuous violence in this beautiful game and urged all club officials, fans, and football authorities to use the game of football as a powerful force for peace and unity. No matter what happens in the game, sportsmanship should be highly demonstrated,” said SWASAL President, Sahr Morris Jr.

Meanwhile, the association wants to caution and remind all sports journalists to be professional

during the cause of their job, taking into mind fairness, objectivity, and opportunity to reply. Once again, SWASAL would like to stress that, violence should have no place in football and we are ready and willing to work and engage with all partners to eradicate it from this ‘Beautiful Game’.
