Technical Issue on Voter Registration resolved – ECSL

The Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mohamed Kenewui Konneh has said that the technical issue pertaining the Voter Registration software of first-time voter which occurred at the start of the registration process has been resolved by the Commission.

He made this disclosure on Thursday during a news conference on the ongoing registration process.

Konneh said that persons who had not been registered by ECSL and the National Civil Registration Commission (NCRA) should first be registered with the civil registration system before proceeding to ECSL for registration in the same Voter Registration Centre.

The Commissioner noted that the attention of the Commission had also been drawn to the issues of power supply, adding that issue have been significantly improved with the provision of solar panels to charge the batteries of computers. He added that generators have also been provided in remote areas for the same.

Konneh said the Commission has been notified of attempts by some people who facilitated the registration of underaged persons, reminding citizens that is a crime punishable by law.

“We want the public to know that voter registration field capture has two phases. This first phase will end on the 17 September 2022. Our Operations team will need two days to move equipment and staff for the second phase,” Konneh said.
