Texas Base Organization a social club in Kukuna Town in Bramaia Chiefdom, Kambia District has recently organized a singing competition at the Saint Mary’s Auditorium to discover talented singers who hail from the chiefdom.
The competition attracted artist with talent in singing who had settled in Conakry Guinea, Freetown and those who were still based within the Chiefdom.
Twelve people competed in the singing contest which at the end Dauda Bangura, aka Lion Man won taking home Le 1,000,000 (Old Leones) as cash price, closely followed by Bagas, the First Runner-Up who won Le 400,000.
According to the organizers, the event was also aimed at creating a platform for the artists to showcase their talent, fostering love and establishing network that could help them complement one another’s growth as performing artists.
According to the Chairman of the Texas Base Social Club Chairman Alhajie Turay there are a lot of talented youths within Bramaia Chiefdom, but since they had no platform to showcase their talent, it was difficult to discover them. “So one of the ways to discover these youths and encourage them to nurture their gifts is by holding such an event. And indeed, we discovered a lot of them. We are encouraging them to work hard and focus on their dreams. We hope to see them again in our next show,” he added.
The artists applauded the organization for staging the singing competition. They said that the event had not only given them the opportunity to showcase their talents but also helped to overcome stage anxiety.
According to Lion Man, he has gained so much popularity because of the competition. “I am able to win le 1,000,000 and gain so much recognition and respect with the help of this competition. This is the kind of event we are expecting from youths and social clubs in our communities. With this, we can share love, build trust and render help to one another in the community. So we are hoping to see many of these kinds of event,” Lion Man added.
