Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of the Pademba Road Court No.2 has remanded John Sesay, Abubakar Yamka and Noel Smart at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown for allegedly murdering one Steven Kanu.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Tucker on the charges of conspiracy and murder.
The police are claiming that the crimes took place on Saturday 2nd July, 2022 at Kamayama Regent Road in Freetown.
Sub-Inspector A.T. Bangura led the 1st prosecution witness, Moses Kanu, a resident of Kamayama Lumley in Freetown, recognised the deceased, Steven Kanu as his brother’s son and also recognised the accused persons as neighbors.
He recalled that on Saturday 2nd July 2022, the date the crimes were allegedly committed, a lady whom he could not recall went to his residence screaming and informing him about the incident.
He said upon receipt of the information, he left for the crime scene, adding that when he arrived there he saw the deceased lying motionless and he called his name three but could not get any response from the victim.
He said he observed that the deceased’s neck and right leg had been fractured with knife mark on his left shoulder.
The witness said he rushed to the Lumley Police Division and reported the matter there.
According to Kanu he and a team of officers from the Lumley Police Division visited the crime scene and took photographs and eventually the corpse was conveyed to the Connaught Hospital mortuary in Freetown.
On the 13th of July 2022, he said he witnessed a postmortem examination at the said hospital which was conducted by Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma on the remains of the deceased.
He continued that after the post mortem examination on the deceased, the Cause of Death Certificate was handed over to him.
The witness then informed the court that he intended to produced and tender it to form part of the court’s records, and proceeded to do exactly that.
Mr. Kanu concluded his evidence by clarifying that he made a statement at the Lumley Police Division.
The defence Counsel M.S. Bangura was late. He sought for the proceedings to be adjourned and for the witness to be cross examined an application which was granted.
The accused were not admitted to bail, but remanded at the Male Correction Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
