Mamoud Kamara, an engineer at Africell, Alie Barrie, and Amara Sesay were arraigned before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No 1 over an alleged theft at Sierratel facility in Port Loko district.
The accused are standing in on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The charge sheet indicated that the accused on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Komrabai Village, Lokomasama chiefdom, Port loko District, conspired to commit Larceny.
The charges further show that the accused did steal one B15 3606 CDMA 3/2 site, six Aviat Eclipse IGbps microwave links, one DC rectifier cabinet 48v.200 Apm, 12 deep cycl VLAR Gel battery and other assorted items valued at three billion, nine hundred and seventy-three million and one hundred and seventy thousand leones (3, 973,170,000), property of Sierra Leone Telecommunication company.
The prosecutor ASP Dalia Wellington informed the court that the complainant is absent in court.
She added that she called the complainant who informed her that he was out of the jurisdiction.
Defense Counsel Maddieu Sesay adopted the previous bail application made by W. Gabber on the previous adjournment.
He said the prosecution should treat the court with seriousness, adding that they should prove their case, and it is the position of the prosecution to move on with their case.
He added that bail ensures that the accused appear before the court on every adjourned date.
Lawyer Sesay further that the accused had spent 27 days at the Male Correctional Center.
He further said that his clients have reliable sureties who are ready to stand on their behalf.
Magistrate Kekura urged the prosecution to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
He said even if the complainant is not in court, the exhibit clerk and other witnesses should be in court to testify so that the matter could proceed.
Magistrate Kekura refused to admit the accused on bail. The matter was adjourned to September 3, 2024, for further hearing.
