Alfred Turay, Sheriff Vandi and Alimatu Turay were yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Mark Ngeba of Pademba court No 1 on allegation of cultivating 262.4 kilograms of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.
The accused are charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit an offence and cultivation of cannabis sativa contrary to section 7 (a) of The National Drugs Control Act, 2008.
The chargesheet states that the accused persons on a date between November 1, 2022, and May 4, 2023 at Kobba Town conspired to cultivate cannabis sativa without lawful authority.
The chargesheet further state that the accused on the same date and place cultivated cannabis sativa weighing 262.4 kilograms without lawful authority.
Shortly after the charges were read and explained to the accused, they pleaded not guilty of the offense.
The prosecutor ASP Christina Davis Cole sought for an adjournment on the grounds that her witnesses are absent in court.
The accused were remanded in custody until May 26, 2023 when the matter comes up for hearing.
