Three Jailed for Arson

Adikalie Suma, alias Kalamasinah, Mohamed Bangura alias pobom and Kamanda Sankoh were on Friday, September 30, 2022 sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 for allegedly setting on fire the dwelling house of one Abubakar Suleiman Kamara.

The accused persons who made their first appearance in court were arraigned on one count of arson contrary to section 3 of the Malicious Damage Act 1861.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused persons on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at No 4 Mamah Lane, Kambia 2 in the Magbema chiefdom in the Kambia district maliciously set on fire the dwelling house of Abubakar Suleiman Kamara with intent to damage property.

When the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor ASP I. S. Mansaray informed the court that the complainant was present but could not proceed with the matter.

Defense lawyer G. Conteh applied for bail on behalf of the accused persons citing section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act 1965.

He added that the offences for which they were in court was very serious, but still bailable. He said that the accused persons had been in police custody for over two months.

Magistrate Ngegba however, refused to admit the accused on bail.

The matter was adjourned to October 7, 2022.
