Three Sentenced to 12 Months in Prison for Unlawful Possession of ‘Kush’

The principal magistrate of the Freetown Magistrate Court No 1, Magistrate Mark Ngeba  on Monday, November 4, 2022 sentenced  Yaya Kanu, Mohamed Kanu and Mariama Bah to one year  in prison  each and also pays a fine of Le1,000,000 (one million Leones) each to the State after  they were found guilty of selling 126 wraps of  K2 (synthetic cannabinoid) which is also known as Spice.

The convicts were arranged on three counts of unlawful possession of “kush” (K2) contrary to section 48(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

The chargesheet indicates that the accused on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Freetown were found with 126 wraps of “kush” without lawful authority.

Shortly after the charges were read and explained to the accused, they pleaded guilty to the offense and further pleaded for mercy.

Defense Counsel A. A Bah in his plea mitigation, pleaded with the bench to temper justice with mercy on the accused, adding that they are first-time offenders.

Magistrate Ngegba sentenced the accused persons to one year imprisonment each and pay a fine of one million Leones each to the State.
