The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) has said in a statement on Monday that the Tripartite Committee lacks the authority to overturn election results.
The statement was put out to clarify and dispel misconceptions surrounding the scope and implementation of the National Peace Agreement.
The Commission said in the statement that the Agreement was done in line with
the Constitution of Sierra Leone.
The Commission said that the Electoral Reform Committee also known to some as the Tripartite Committee was set up to fostering dialogue and enhancing national engagement.
The Commission said that the establishment of the Committee was to scrutinize electoral systems, particularly the 2023 elections, and previous electoral processes with a primary objective is to formulate recommendations aimed at improving future electoral processes.
“Contrary to misconceptions, the Committee lacks the authority to overturn election results.
The Committee has no powers to indict individuals,” ICPNC said
The notice cited that participation in the recommendation process extends beyond political entities, encompassing citizen input for comprehensive electoral reforms.
“The Committee was not convened with the intent to manipulate election outcomes.
The Committee has no power to invalidate the presidential results of the last elections,” Peace Commission said in the statement.
