Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Police have confirmed the tragic discovery of two children, ages three and under, who were found dead in an abandoned vehicle within the premises of the National Pentecostal Church Kindergarten School in Freetown. One of the kids was said to be in a critical condition is responding to treatment at the hospital. The children, who had been reported missing earlier, were found during an investigation initiated after the disappearance.
One of the victims, identified as Patrick Hassan Kamara, aged 2 years and 9 months, was reported missing by his family. According to his grandfather, Mr. Mohamed Samura, the child’s mother called him in distress after Patrick could not be found. The incident was promptly reported to the police, who arrived at the school compound to search for the missing children. They were subsequently discovered in a private vehicle with registration number AJA 671.
Concerns Raised by the Victims’ Families
Speaking to the press, Mr. Samura expressed frustration with the situation, alleging interference by the church in the ongoing investigation. He called on the police to handle the case professionally.
Marcus Bangura, Executive Director of Citizens Forum for Democratic Accountability and a relative of one of the deceased children, condemned the increasing frequency of child deaths in schools. He questioned the adequacy of security measures at schools and called for a thorough and transparent investigation.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The Sierra Leone Police have confirmed that five individuals have been arrested for questioning in connection with the case. They have urged parents and the public to remain patient as the investigation continues. Authorities have indicated that the exact cause of the children’s deaths is yet to be determined, pending the results of an autopsy.
