Unauthorized landing: Govt impounds aircraft, four in custody

The government of Sierra Leone on Friday impounded a private non-scheduled aircraft at the Freetown International Airport and all four people onboard have been held in custody, the Civil Aviation Authority said Friday.

“At 11.54 pm on the 19th of September 2024, a private non-scheduled aircraft landed at FNA, without an approved landing permit. The said aircraft has been impounded by the State Security forces and all 4 persons on board are currently in police custody,” the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.

“The Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority and SLCAA inspectors from the Directorate of Flight Safety Standards and Aviation Security were on site to assist in the initial interrogation of all onboard the aircraft.

Investigations are still ongoing, and the public will be updated on the outcome.”

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority wishes to assure the public of its commitment to the safety and security of Civil Aviation in Sierra Leone.
