Clifford Amiru Dumbuya, 49, and Christiana Gladys Roberts, 38, were yesterday refused bail by Magistrate SahrKekura of Court No 1 after the accused were arraigned on allegation of wounding Roland Lansana Robert, the husband of the second accused.
The accused persons were arraigned on six counts including causing grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons Clifford Amiru Dumbuya and Christina Gladys Robert on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Ring Drive, Aberdeen in Freetown wounded Roland Lansana Roberts with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
Led in evidence by State Counsel, J. M. S. Bull, first prosecution witness, Martin Mballu, a resident of Majay Town, said he recognized both accused persons, and had known the second accused for very long time. He also told the court that the complainant RolandLansanan Robert is his neighbour.
He recalled January 1, 2022, when he was at Majay Town the complainant Robert, asked that he meet him at Lumley. Mballu said the complainant later asked that they meet at a place called Gigibonta.
“The complainant requested that we follow one jeep with my motorbike until we reached Kallon Drive, and we later moved to Aberdeen around Bintumani Hotel and branched at another junction where a man came out of a compound and discussed with the complainant Robert before we left,” he disclosed.
The witness added that Robert (second accused) came down of the vehicle and was shouting, “Lanslef,Lanslef!!!. “I put on the headlight of my motorbike and got to understand that the first accused was chasing his wife,” he revealed.
He furthered that the 1st accused entered the vehicle, drove off and hit a vehicle that was parked at a wall. “The 1st accused took an iron and hit the complainant, Lansana on his hand and head, and the complainant fell down,” he said.
He witness added that the 1st accused threatened to kill the complainant who happens to be the husband of the second accused.
The witness said that he together with two other people raised the complainant from the ground.
He said that at that point, the second accused picked up a stone and pelted it on the on the head of the complainant, adding that the complainant became unconscious and was rushed to the emergency hospital.
The witness said he later made statement to the police.
During cross-examination by lawyer Elvis Kargbo, the witness said he doesn’t know the full name of the complainant, noting that the complainant is the husband of the second accused.
The witness denied that the complainant was his brother. He also denied that the motorbike in question was bought by the complainant.
Lawyer Kargbo put it to the witness that the second accused was not at the alleged crime scene, but the witness denied.
Lawyer Kargbo requested for bail for his clients. He urged the Magistrate to presume the accused persons innocent until proven guilty. He said the accused persons have reliable sureties to enter into recognizance. However, Magistrate Sahr Kekura remanded the accused persons and adjourned the matter to February 21, 2022.
