Ahead of the 2023/2024 Women’s Premier League season, the Female Premier League Board has organized a training for coaches and captains of the 12 Premier League Female Clubs for the purpose of helping the coaches and team captains understand the culture of female football, as a way of helping them understand the challenges in the female game as a way of putting them in a better stead to overcome them.

Ibrahim Bah, the Technical Director of the Sierra Leone Football Association who doubled as a facilitator of the training, stated that the training will help the captains and head coaches to have good communication skills to interact with referees, team officials and footballers from the various teams in the league.

Speaking to the Head of Media and Marketing, Hawa Dauda disclosed to Premier News that the training was a way of bringing memories of the previous season and helping them to understand more about women’s football in terms of its development and structures. She however said that the league is scheduled for December 23rd, 2023 of which all twelve teams will battle it out for the main prize which will be made known to the teams during the course of the League’s commencement. For now, we don’t have a sponsor but we are hopeful of getting one.

Speaking to Premier News, the Chairperson of the Board, Madam Catherine Sillah thanked the media for their work done last season.  She also stated that football is the most dominant sport in the world and in Sierra Leone, adding “we are no exception to that because the prominence of male football is far away female football and for us to match the male football we need the media’s support fully.”

She went on to state that the weakness of female football is still behind apparent and they are relying on the media to give them extra support so that they could have a good tournament. “We can have all the money to give to the teams, but if the media fails to give the ambiance then our effort will be fruitless,” she added.

Angela C. Gabbidon the Secretary also called on corporate houses to come on board and support the women’s league so that more talents would be spotted.
