Freetown, Sierra Leone – 5th September 2024: Sheku Bangura, a youth, was remanded on Thursday, 5th September 2024, by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 for allegedly stealing over two hundred and fifty thousand new Leones from the premises of Kebbie Sesay in Waterloo.
The accused, Sheku Bangura, is standing trial on a single count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. It is alleged that on Monday, 12th August 2024, at the premises of Kebbie Sesay, Bangura stole a sum of $8,700 USD, equivalent to 210,540 New Leones, along with an additional 40,000 New Leones in fiscal cash. The total amount stolen was reported as 250,540 New Leones, the property of Kebbie Sesay.
When the charge was read to Bangura in court, he pleaded not guilty. However, the accused was not represented by a defense attorney, and no bail application was made on his behalf. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sorie Conteh, who is prosecuting the case, requested a short adjournment due to the absence of witnesses in court.
Citing the seriousness of the allegations, Magistrate Bangura remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to the 12th of September 2024 for a hearing.
